MY ADVICE FOR TRAVELING SOLO

Sunset over the Mountains

1.

Plan in advanced

Do your research before traveling, know the area where you are going and what is around. This will prevent you from going anywhere that you are not familiar with that could potentially be dangerous. This will also help when trying to plan your day.

2.

Meet other travelers!

This is not only fun, but can help you along the way! Small conversation could lead you to find hidden gems around the city or sites to see that you may not have heard about, let alone meeting new people with different backgrounds is so exciting.

3.

Leave a copy of your travel itinerary with your friends/family

This will ensure your loved ones that you are being safe, have a plan,  and they will know where you will be.

4.

Eat alone- and love it!

DO NOT be afraid of eating alone, eat somewhere new or local to the area. Not only could you meet other travelers along the way, but it gets you out of your comfort zone. Eating alone is only scary if you let it be, do it and do it confidently!

5.

Be safe and trust your gut

This one if a given, always be aware of your surroundings, you are traveling alone and that can be scary. Take extra precautions when traveling to and from destinations.

6.

Take a BUNCH of photos

Don’t be afraid to bring along a tripod and capture memories along the way. WHO CARES WHO IS WATCHING, be confident in yourself and get that snapshot! This is a once in a lifetime adventure, it doesn’t matter who’s watching!

7.

Make a list of your emergency contacts and keep it with you

With the possibility of something happening to you while you are traveling, if you keep a list of your emergency contacts with you it will be easy to provide the correct help with options.

8.

Take advantage of helpful traveling apps

I have a whole page of helpful travel apps, these are the apps that I use when I travel to be prepared and travel eco-friendly and safe. Take advantage of the resources in the area and use them to help with your travel plans.

1.

Confidence in yourself!

Book that flight, plan that roadtrip, pack your bags- although it is scary, you can do it!! Do not let the fact that you will be alone shy you away from traveling.

2.

Understanding yourself better

Having time to yourself to explore other environments and meet new people is so empowering. You can take this time to find out who you are and set new goals.

3.

Independent experience

Again, traveling alone can be a scary thought, but experiencing things alone can prove to you just how independent you are and how strong you are.
